A boom skirt is a product that is added to a boom or barrier arm to provide additional security. Boom skirts block off the space between a closed barrier arm and the ground, preventing people and objects from passing through below the barrier arm. Boom skirts are sections of vertical plastic or aluminum bars that attach to and hang from the barrier arm to fill the gap between the barrier arm and the ground.

How Do Boom Skirts Work?

Boom skirts are attached to the barrier arm using a special bracket and have a guiding rod along the bottom of the skirt, which is attached to the opener and aids with smooth operation as the barrier arm opens and closes. The boom skirt folds parallel to the opener housing unit as the barrier arm lifts to the open position.

Boom skirts are easy to install; however, to attach the boom skirt to the barrier arm, you will need a bracket, and if you attach a boom skirt to longer barrier arms, you may need a barrier arm support post to prevent operator damage as the boom skirt may cause the barrier arm to sag.
